Reds rally falls short in dropping series to Rangers

Rangers 4 Reds 3

Quick Cap:
The Rangers ambushed Andrew Abbott for four 1st inning runs, all after two were out, and that was all they would need.
Reds bats struggled vs Rangers SP Dane Dunning until the 6th, when they plated three runs.
They had a shot in the 9th: Jonathan India singled with one out and pinch-runner Bubba Thompson swiped 2nd. Nick Martini walked. But Jeimer Candelario struck out for the 4th time on the day and Luke Maile lined out to 3rd to end it.

The Rangers take the series and drop the Reds to 15-13.

The Reds were short handed, again. CES and Stephenson were both out after being HBP Saturday.

Notes:

O: 6 H, 1 BB, 15 K.

The Rangers scored in just two innings over Saturday/Sunday. After 0 runs and one hit in the first eight innings Saturday, they stacked 8 runs on 10 hits in the 9th inning Saturday/1st inning Sunday.

India: 2 for 4.....8 for his last 12, following a 4 for 46 skid. He singled with one out in the 5th to break up Dunning’s perfect game. He arrived in Arlington 1 for 32 on the road this season.

Rangers SP Dane Dunning: 5.1, 3 H, 1 R, 10 K, 69 pitches/39 strikes.
29 pitches through 3 innings. He started the 2nd with back to back K’s on 6 pitches (Fraley/India). 58 pitches/9 K through 5 innings. Honestly, it looked like the Reds hitters had downloaded the wrong scouting report. He had allowed 7 HR in 29.1 innings coming into the game.

Elly: 1B, R, SB (18)…4th most in MLB history by the end of April. Batting RH, he was thrown out bunting for a hit w/ 1 out in 8th.
Spencer Steer: 1B, RBI, SB (7 for 7). Heck of a diving stop 1B to take away a 2B.
Maile: 2B, R, HBP.....his double in the 6th opened the door on a three run 6th.
Will Benson: H, R, RBI
Jeimer Candelario 0-4, 4 K. ....0 for his last 19...really tough to watch.
Jake Fraley: 0-4, 3 K

3 SB. The Reds have MLB beat 52 SB in 28 games.

Andrew Abbott: 5.1, 4 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 7 K. 85 pitches/56 strikes.
25 pitch 1st inning. 2-run HR Garcia. 2-run Wyatt Langford inside-the-park HR (1st ML HR). Settled in. 8 pitch 2nd. Retired 11 in a row into the 5th.

Bullpen:

6th: Sims entered 1 out/runner 2nd. WP. BB. DP.
7th: Pagan 2 BB, K, GO.
8th: Wilson 3 K

Reds pitchers issued 3 BB Sunday, 1 Saturday…0 Friday….1 Thursday.

How they scored:
6th: Benson RBI 1B, 4-1 Rangers
6th: Steer RBI 1B and another scored on throwing error, 4-3 Rangers
