I71 Detour Lifted

Posted Sunday, August 3rd 2014 @ 2pm  by 700WLW News

(Cincinnati) -- The Ohio Department of Transportation had expected southbound lanes of I-71 to be closed all weekend.  But, crews got done with their work faster than planned.

The southbound lanes were closed at Dana, late Friday night, so workers could take down an unused railroad overpass, crossing the Interstate.  The road was going to be closed until early Monday morning, but, by Sunday, the work was done and traffic was flowing freely on I-71 again.

The removal of the overpass is part of the preparation to build a new interchange serving I-71 and Uptown.

A bridge over the northbound lanes is still in place.  It will be removed sometime in the future.
