The next time that the Republican Party picks a candidate for President, it might be in Cincinnati. The Tristate is one of eight finalists to host the Republican National Convention in 2016.
Cincinnati was selected along with Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, Las Vegas and Phoenix to move to the next phase of the selection process. The committee which will choose a city plans to visit each of the finalists by late spring and then pick a host city in early summer.
It has been over a century since a political convention was held in Cincinnati. The Democrats held their convention in Cincinnati in 1856 and 1880 while the Republicans last held their convention in Cincinnati in 1876.
