(Cincinnati) -- Earlier this month, the Associated Press had a feature on things to do in Cincinnati. It was picked up across the country. And the 21C Hotel was honored by Conde Nast Traveler magazine as one of the best new hotels in the world. In March, Forbes hailed Cincinnati for having one of the top emerging Downtowns. And this weekend, a New York Post reporter will be in the Tri-State for another feature story.
The Convention and Visitors Bureau is rather happy with all the coverage Cincinnati has been getting. Julie Calvert says you can't buy that kind of publicity. She says it's like a "third party endorsement" on all of the local investment and development. She's expecting good numbers for tourism for 2013.
Part of the credit goes to the Cincinnati Reds, who Calvert says are always a big draw. She says a promising season doesn't hurt visitor numbers. And she says having new attractions like the Horseshoe Casino, the Banks and the 21C Hotel are all helping the Tri-State grab the attention of travel writers, tourism magazines, and potential visitors.
Calvert says the more people outside hear about the Tri-State, the more likely they are to come investigate for themselves. Calvert says until recently, most visitors came from the region; Indianapolis, Chicago, Louisville, and so on. But she says more people are coming from farther away, thanks to the national exposure.
