WV Chemical Passing Through

( Ohio River ) - Greater Cincinnati Water Works shut down their intake from the Ohio River late Tuesday night in anticipation of chemicals from West Virginia flowing past the city.

Monitors in the river detected 4-Methylcyclohexanemethanol in the eastern part of the Tri-State early Wednesday morning. It's a chemical used to clean coal, and when it spilled into the Elk River last week, 300,000 people in the Charleston area were told to only use tap water to flush their toilets.

People in the Tri-State are advised to stay away from the Ohio River altogether until it's been determined that the chemical has safely passed. No interruption in local water service is expected.
