( Fairfield, OH ) - The city of Fairfield will keep it's ban on pitbulls in effect.
City Council voted against repealing the ban and adopting a vicious dog ordinance instead. Council cited ongoing concerns about the breed's history of attacks.
Advocates for the animals had asked for an end to the ban, saying the dogs are not aggressive by nature.
For now though there is no change. Anyone who violates the ban is subject to a third-degree misdemeanor. The dog would also have to be put down or removed from city limits.
