Picking Up The Pieces
From David Troup: Picking Up The Pieces is a project, originated in Cincinnati, in which individuals commit to making the attempt to pick up three pieces of litter every day: anyplace, anytime, anywhere! A very simple concept but at the same time a very sustainable daily activity that hopefully becomes a habit for all involved. We currently have over 7940 participants hailing from all 50 states and 19 countries outside of the United States. That is over 8.6 million pieces of litter a year. More info HERE and HERE.
*Participants in the Picking Up The Pieces project are also invited to participate in one time neighborhood cleanup efforts; we are establishing relationships with area neighborhood community civic groups and councils.
*We are developing ways get area students involved in the project, from grade school through university levels. I have spoken with representatives of student groups at the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University, along with faculty at Cincinnati Country Day School, Newport Central Catholic High School, St. Xavier High School and Elder High School. Plans are in place to speak with elementary school students in Westwood. I am available to make brief presentations at any school; I retired after a career working for Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services and have a very flexible schedule.
