Final: Diamondbacks 4 Reds 0 Boxscore
Well, so much for my search for sustainability.
*Reds have lost 5 of 6, record of 23-29 overall, season high 8 games back.
*8 games out is the most the Reds have been out of first place in month of May since May 31, 2008 (8 out)
*Reds have gone 15 road games since winning back-to-back road games: April 23-24 vs Pirates.
*Diamondbacks entered the game 8-19 at home, tied for worst SP ERA in MLB (5.04).
*The Reds followed a win over LA and Clayton Kershaw with a shutout loss to Arizona and a pitcher named Josh Collmenter.
*Collmenter faced the minimum, 27 batters, allowing 3 hits and 0 BB in the complete game shutout. He threw 94 pitches. All 3 Reds batters that reached were erased on DP's.
*Collmenter just 13th pitcher since 1914 to allow at least 3 hits and still face the minimum. (Per Elias)
*Let's face it, the organization is going to start finding it more and more difficult to sell this.
B1: Pollock scored on Mesoraco throwing error, 1-0 AZ
B4: Hill HR, 2-0 AZ
B6: Hill RBI 1B, 3-0 AZ
B7: Prado RBI 1B, 4-0 AZ
*Reds have scored 3 runs or fewer in six consecutive games. Per Steven Sharp, 14 consecutive games is team record since 1914.
*Reds have scored 3 runs or fewer in 28 of 52 games (54%). Record 7-21.
*Reds shutout for 6th time.
*Reds runners left on base: 0
*Reds batters 5 K, 0 BB....that's 75 strikeouts and just 7 walks in last 7 games.
*Brayan Pena 2 hits, Billy Hamilton 1 hit.
*Jay Bruce 2-23, 11 K since coming off DL.
*Tony Cingrani: 5 IN, 7 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 3 K, 98 pitches/63 strikes.
*Is Cingrani pitching himself into the Reds bullpen or to Triple-A Louisville?
*JJ Hoover: 2 IN, 1 R.....saw scoreless streak end at 9.2 IN over 7 appearances.
*Sean Marshall a rare scoreless inning.
*At this point, I'm not sure of the point of playing Ludwick over Lutz in LF. Ludwick is slugging .295 in May, if Lutz can't do that I'll eat my briefcase.
*Tonight should be fun: Arroyo vs Leake...teacher vs mentor.
*Mat Latos goes for Louisville tonight.
*To get to 90 wins, Reds would have to go 67-43 (.610) the rest of the way. A .610 winning percentage is equal to going 99-63 over a full season.
*Game time: A crisp 2 hours, 30 minutes.
