Who are these guys?
The roll continues. The Reds pounced the Pirates 11-4 and moved to the .500 mark for the first time since April 24 (11-11). HERE are notes, stats and video highlights of the game. Alfredo Simon becomes the NL's first 10-game winner.

Just weird
From Steven Sharp
The Reds had a rather dubious active streak as it related to calendar date June 18th.  From 2000 to 2013, the Reds had played on June 18th in each of those fourteen seasons (no off-days and no doubleheaders). In that stretch of fourteen June 18th games, the Reds managed to lose all of them. @Kev1kevinmann (on Twitter) pointed that out to me yesterday before the Reds game.  I doublechecked, and he was correct.
One thing that I noticed is that as much of a statistical oddity as losing fourteen straight times on one calendar date seems to be, is that fourteen different Reds pitchers took the loss in those games.  No Reds pitcher "double-dipped" on June 18th losses during that fourteen-season stretch.
Reds pitchers who took the loss in Reds games played on calendar date June 18th (2000 to 2013):
Rob Bell (2000)
Brian Reith (2001)
Chris Reitsma (2002)
Jimmy Haynes (2003)
Mike Matthews (2004)
Eric Milton (2005)
Aaron Harang (2006)
Kyle Lohse (2007)
Bronson Arroyo (2008)
Matt Maloney (2009)
Johnny Cueto (2010)
Edinson Vólquez (2011)
Sam LeCure (2012)
Mat Latos (2013)
Prior to the Reds win last night (June 18, 2014), when Alfredo Simon picked up the win, the last time that the Reds won on calendar date June 18th was in 1999, when Steve Avery picked up the win versus the Brewers in a game played at Cinergy Field.  Greg Vaughn hit a red-seat home run for the Reds in that June 18, 1999 game.

Which Reds player makes this list?

Who is the best all-around player in MLB?
Wall Street Journal
It's a debate waged each year, especially as baseball fans fill out their All-Star ballot: Who is the best all-around player?
The Count took a look at three categories (batting, base running, defense).

Chapman's cruel experiment
The changeup, now, is just part of his arsenal, and it hovers around 90 miles per hour. Which means Aroldis Chapman, an all-time dominant reliever, has increased his repertoire by 50%. And so far this season, he’s struck out 54% of the batters he’s faced.

Cool story

The Joey Votto legend grows
Toronto Sun
After the game Votto approached Siddiq, who he knew from his summer nights at Connorvale, and asked “how am I doing? Anything I can improve on?”
Siddiq replied: “Joey you just lost three balls ... two on the roof, you went 4-for-5 with a double and three homers.”
Votto insisted asking for pointers: “what can I do to get better?”
“I figured I’d throw him a bone and told him I thought that on one pitch he was getting out on his front foot ... just a little,” said Siddiq.
And that was the end of that or so the coach thought.............

Making the leap: #17 Marvin Jones
Jones is a joy to watch. (It was hard to narrow down the highlights for this article.) I expected to see a pure vertical receiver when firing up NFL Game Rewind, but Jones was a complete player with few holes. He never gives up on a pass, no matter how wayward the throw from Andy Dalton He can make sensational diving catches, and grab passes in traffic. He is a natural, fluid runner after the catch or when he's given the ball on a handoff.

Xavier: Brad Redford raps?
