Deadspin: 2014 payrolls and salaries
Ramon Santiago told he has made club. No corresponding 40 man roster move yet though #reds— Mark Sheldon (@m_sheldon) March 26, 2014
OK, with Santiago making the team, where does that leave the 25-man roster?
Santiago gets a spot on40-man, so somebody must come off. Curtis Partch?
Below is the best I can figure:
Chapman, Broxton, Marshall, Latos, Hannahan, Schumaker
Possbile DL: Devin Mesoraco
12 pitchers: 5 SP/7 bullpen
5 bench: C, 2 OF, 2 INF
5. B. Marshall (If picked over Simon)
Not on 40-man: Jeff Francis
Bullpen (7 spots/need 1)
4. Parra (LHP)
5. Simon (If not in rotation)
Bullpen options: (need 1)
On 40-man: Pedro Beato (R),Chad Rogers (R), Curtis Partch
Not on 40-man: Jumbo Diaz (R), Trevor Bell (R)
Starting lineup (8)
Mesoraco, Votto, Phillips, Frazier, Cozart, Ludwick, Bruce, Hamilton.
**If Mesoraco would start on DL, the back-up catching options would be Tucker Barnhart (R), Corky Miller (R). Barnhart is on the 40-man, Miller is not.
Bench: (5 spots/need 2)
1. Brayan Pena
2. Chris Heisey
3. Ramon Santiago
Bench options: need 2
On 40-man: Neftali Soto (R)
Not on 40-man: Roger Bernadina (L), Chris Nelson (R),
Ryan Ludwick talks with Jim Kelch
This is very cool
Fay: Reds DL is long on names, short on big names
Johnny B. Ready: Kevin Goheen writes it looks like Johnny Cueto sealed the Opening Day start.
With season on deck, Dusty Baker's garden grows
He spoke to new Reds manager Bryan Price a couple of months back, but says, "I let them do their own thing, it's their ship now."
Sports on Earth has the Reds 2nd, behind the Cards
The Reds are still likely the second-best team in the Central, but without some unexpectedly big seasons from guys like Ludwick, Frazier or the always-controversial Brandon Phillips, along with full seasons of top-of-the-rotation performances from Johnny Cueto and Homer Bailey, it's hard to see the Reds having the juice on either side of the ball to have hopes higher than the second Wild Card.
Dan Clasgens, GetSportsInfo, has his over/under look at the Reds
Billy Hamilton –.330 OBP
Under – If he gets on base at that clip it would be huge for the Reds. That’s all they need him to do to hold onto the leadoff spot as the starting centerfielder. I’m not as optimistic here, at least not right out of the gate.
