Reds-Pirates: Bring your armor

28 batters were hit by pitches in last year's series between Reds-Pirates.
That was the most in MLB (NY-BOS 25).
5 Reds were hit 12 times by 8 Pittsburgh pitchers.
(Choo 7, Phillips 2, Frazier 1, Paul 1, Hannahan 1)
7 Pirates were hit 16 times by 10 Cincinnati pitchers.
(Marte 5, McCutchen 4, Mercer 2, Walker 2, Martin 1, Tabata 1, Alvarez 1)

CINCINNATI, OH - APRIL 13: Chris Heisey #28 of the Cincinnati Reds hits a grand slam in the 8th inning during the game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Great American Ball Park on April 13, 2014 in Cincinnati, Ohio. (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)

Final: Reds 12 Rays 4
*3rd straight series Reds avoid sweep by winning final game
*Mesoraco HR, 443 feet, career high 4 RBI
*I maintain Mez will eventually be a 15-18 HR/75-80 RBI guy.
*Phillips 3 hits, Cozart 2 hits, including 2 RBI, Billy a hit.
*Bruce 1 for 1, double, 4 walks
*Every position player had a hit with exception of Frazier: 0-4.
*Heisey PH Grand Slam....7th PH HR career.
*Say my name,”……..”Heisey”……..”you’re &$@& right”
*Heisey career:
Starter: .254-.327-.424-.732
Pinch-hitter: .297-.357-.584-.941
*Votto another HR
*Reds drew 7 walks
*Attendance: 34,307......100,000+ at GABP this weekend
* Reds managed to get 2 runners thrown out at plate on same play, yep.
*Cingrani: 6.1 IN, 2 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 6 K.
*21 straight starts to begin Cingrani's career, allowing 5 hits/fewer, ML record.
*Somehow Partch walked 2 batters in 9th, with 8 run lead.
*Allowing the manager to walk out, kill time and look to dugout for thumbs up/down on whether to challenge is dumb.
*Hustle: On a Ryan Ludwick fly out to RF, Jay Bruce tagged up and forced a throw to 2B. The throw bounced off of SS Yunel Escobar’s glove and rolled into the outfield. Bruce went to third and then scored on Devin Mesoraco's sac fly.

Back of pack
The Reds begin today 6 games back of 1st place in the NL Central.
They last time the Reds were more than 6 games out of 1st place in April:
April 26, 2008...6.5 games out.

Frazier cleans up Sunday
Bryan Price plugged Todd Frazier into the cleanup spot of the batting order Sunday.
It was the 11th career start in the 4th spot for Frazier:
10 previous starts: 6 for 43, .140, 1 HR, 6 RBI. Frazier batted cleanup for one game in April, May and June last year. The last time he batted cleanup was June 25 vs A's.

The week in overreactions: The Reds are in serious trouble
Matt Snyder, CBS Sports
There's very little reason to panic and zero reason to write them off as a bad team based upon an 11-game sample.
First of all, the Reds have lost five times by just one run. We can't realistically turn all five of them, but let's say they have better fortune and win three of those games. All of a sudden that's a 6-5 ballclub and no one even bats an eye.
