Votto talks
Reds 1B Joey Votto addressed criticism of his injury and rehab in the clubhouse Wednesday afternoon. Thanks Mo Egger for the audio.

"Let's make it clear here. I think there's been a real gray area. This is something hanging over me in the general population. The fans think it's a toughness, or a playing through pain sort of thing. I've been injured, and I've played injured, and I went on the DL because I'm injured, and I'm trying to be un-injured now."

"So, the second I'm capable of playing and no longer injured, I will be back on the field. In the meantime, you can assume I'm injured. So, I shouldn't get some sort of different treatment. I've noticed some comments, here and there, that this is a general perception of something I elected to do. I didn't elect to be injured."

The Reds recalled from Louisville LHP David Holmberg (#36); selected from Louisville the contract of RHP Pedro Villarreal (#62); optioned to Louisville RHP Carlos Contreras andRHP J.J. Hoover.

Daron Bowling, a left-handed youth quarterback and aspiring basketball star, was 10 when he 'was "introduced" to baseball by accident.
"My cousin, who's my age, played baseball and he encouraged me to try it," said Bowling, a future three-sport star at Hughes High School, and now a sophomore engineering student at Morehouse College in Atlanta.

Same team, just different play-callers. More important than how the coaching transitions go is how the young core players—Dalton, Green, Bernard, Eifert, Zeitler, Burfict, Hunt, Iloka, Dennard—progress. The ceiling on the first guy listed here is something this team will have to overcome.

Cardinals benefit from Carson move
“It was hard,” said current Cardinals defensive end Frostee Rucker, who was Palmer’s Cincinnati teammate. “When you have been around a guy, a constant professional who doesn’t complain about much, when you get to a boiling point of a man, it just sucks because we knew in that locker room the type of person and player Carson is, and to see how disappointed he was not to be able to … not change anything, but to get what he wanted, so to say.”
