Tip Time for Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout Announced
CINCINNATI – The Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout between Cincinnati and Xavier on Feb. 18 at Fifth Third Arena will tip at 7 p.m. ET on either ESPN or ESPN2. ESPN will determine which network the game will air on and make the announcement seven to 10 days prior to gameday.
The two schools announced a 10-year agreement to continue their annual men’s basketball rivalry in May. This season’s game also marks a return to campus sites after two seasons at U.S. Bank Arena.
The 2014-15 edition of the Crosstown Shootout will be the 82nd all-time meeting in the series and the 12th meeting at Fifth Third Arena.
The contest is part of UC’s season ticket package.

Frazier at Kings Island
Add Reds 3B Todd Frazier to among the more than 1 million Kings Island visitors that have ridden the world’s longest inverted steel roller coaster this year. Frazier experienced Banshee, taking a ride on the 4,124-foot long coaster on Saturday. The Reds all-star also contributed to the park’s inaugural Kick Cancer campaign by kicking a soccer ball into the park fountain on International Street.

Simon struggles
Simon has lost all four decisions since the All-Star break.
2nd half:  0-4, 4.78 ERA,  26.1 innings.
After throwing 87.2 innings last year, he has tossed a career high 143 innings this year.
Pitches thrown by Simon:
2013: 1,318
2014: 2,146
Simon has pitched five or fewer innings in four of his last five starts.
He has walked 10 batters in the last 8 innings, after walked just 14 in his previous 71 innings.
Bryan Price says he's not concerned with Simon's struggles.
More on Simon's struggles HERE.
Simon's pitch breakdown for 2014.
Is he tired? Bryan Price says no. Can the Reds continue to run him out there if he is going to go just five innings?
Options at Louisville
Dylan Axelrod: 1-2 4.20 in five starts since being acquired in trade from White Sox.
David Holmberg: 1-6 4.76.
Scott Diamond: 1-2 4.20 in five starts since being signed after release by Twins.
Tony Cingrani: Recently resumed throwing program after a shoulder strain. Has not pitched in a game since July 19.

Updating from last week.....
Simon says....Jack Armstrong?

I've received more than a few Tweets and emails about Alfredo Simon's 2nd half fade reminding fans of former Reds pitcher Jack Armstrong. I decided to look up the numbers. Clearly the pitchers are/were at different stages of their career, but the numbers are kind of eerie. 25-year old Jack Armstrong started the 1990 All-Star game. 33-year old Alfredo Simon made the 2014 All-Star team.
1st half: 12-3, 2.70 ERA, 116.2 innings
2nd half:  0-4, 4.78 ERA,   26.1 innings
1st half:  11-3, 2.28 ERA, 114.2 innings
2nd half:  1-6,  5.96 ERA,   51.2 innings
Armstrong notes:
Armstrong was a 1st round pick of the Reds in 1987 (18th overall).
He pitched two scoreless innings as a starter in the 1990 All-Star game.
Jeff Brantley (SF) would take the loss in the NL's 2-0 loss to the AL.
While he faded in the 2nd half of the '90 season, he came up big in Game 2 of the World Series vs Oakland. He pitched three shutout innings in relief of Danny Jackson and Scott Scudder, as the Reds rallied to win 5-4 in 10 innings (Billy Bates!). Armstrong was 11-3 at the '90 All-Star break, but would go 23-52 the rest of his ML career. He also pitched for the Indians (6-15), Marlins (9-17) and Rangers (0-1).
He was out of ML in 1994, at age 29. Career stats HERE.

What made Ward consider it O.K. to walk away from relative safety and chase down other driver, who was in a moving car? To the public, it might seem a crazy decision. It might seem even crazier than driving a race car in the first place.

From Tom DeWees

Sunday afternoon the UC Bearcats officially kicked off the 2014 season when they boarded the buses and headed for Camp Higher Ground.  For the next 14 days it will be nothing but football for Coach Tommy Tuberville and his team.  Here is a behind the scenes look at the teams journey to West Harrison, Indiana.
