"Danny Jackson Fires Two-hit Shutout, and Joe Nuxhall Greets Visiting Bird"
Danny Jackson started and pitched a two-hit complete game shutout for the Reds at the Phillies.  The Reds scored single runs in the top of the sixth inning and the top of the eighth inning.  The Reds line-up that evening for acting manager Tommy Helms included rightfielder Ron Roenicke, first baseman Paul O'Neill, and second baseman Jeff Treadway.  The game was carried for television that night, and this YouTube clip includes the Reds radio call (with the television video) for the bottom of the third inning.  Boxscore.
Broadcaster Joe Nuxhall greeted a bird who visited the Reds broadcast booth during that half inning.  That half inning featured one of the two Phillies hits for the game and the unforgettable around the horn double-play combination of Sabo to Treadway to O'Neill.  With the win, Danny Jackson raised his 1988 record to 5-1.  It was already his fourth complete game (and second complete game shutout) of the 1988 season.

Clones win longest game in franchise history
FORT WAYNE, Indiana - Josh Shalla bounced a loose puck over the head of Ben Meisner at 11:25 of the second overtime to give the Cyclones (6-3) a 3-2 victory over the Fort Wayne Komets (5-3) in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. With the contest ending after 91:25 of play, it went down as the longest game in club history.
Both teams had some solid chances to open the scoring in the first period, however, Rob Madore (W, 49 saves, 6-3) and Ben Meisner (OTL, 33 saves, 5-3) remained solid between the pipes to keep the game scoreless after 20 minutes.
After a day off tomorrow, the teams will resume this best-of-seven series on Saturday night in Game 4 at Memorial Coliseum. Fans can hear the action of the game on the Cyclones Radio Network beginning at 7:00pm with the opening face-off to follow at 7:30pm
