Down on the Farm last night
Mat Latos: 4 innings, 7 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR
Devin Mesoraco: 2 BB, RBI
Final: Cards 7 Reds 6
*The day was long and frustrating.
*If your team is built on pitching and defense, you best win games you score 6 runs.
*Homer Bailey was given a 3-0 lead, could not hold it, and left after 4.1 innings.
*The last thing this team can afford is to expose their bullpen by the 5th inning.
*The reality is that 3 of the 4 bullpen arms yesterday are not on this team if everyone is healthy: Christiani, Bell and Partch.
*Sam LeCure is yet to pitch this season.
*Still don't get Brandon Phillips not taking the 1st pitch after Hamilton walked with 2-outs in the 8th, down a run. You have to give Billy a chance to steal, to get into scoring position. And, you have to do everything you can to get to Votto, who was on deck. BP swung at all five pitches he saw.
*Batters 3-4-5 (Votto, Bruce Frazier: 7 for 11, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB.
*Congrats Tucker Barhnhart, ML debut and he threw out a runner stealing.
*Billy finally got on base, with a walk in the 8th. He's 0-12 overall.
*Frazier's 2 HR day was his first since September 5 of last year, also vs Cards.
*The umpire review made sure a bizarre play was correct. It took 2:08 to rule.

MLB's rain delay policy

Thursday's rain delay was 3 hours 42 minutes, the actual game then lasted 3 hours 41 minutes. My Butler math tells me that a fan that payed to watch Reds-Cards yesterday had to commit to 7 hours and 23 minutes at GABP. That's dumb and that's a major inconvenience for fans. The Reds/MLB need to change their policy on rain delays.
I get that fans got what they paid for, a ML game. What I don't get is not showing fans more compassion and understanding. Time is valuable, to everyone. I can't imagine how screwed up a fan's day becomes when they show up for a 12:35 game, sit through a 3 hour 42 minute rain delay, and don't leave the ballpark until almost 8pm. Consider how much additional money a fan might have to spend on concessions during that time.
My new rule would be if a rain delay extends beyond 2 hours and 30 minutes (about the normal length of a ML game), each fan gets a ticket to another game later in the season, as a reward for their patience and understanding.
I still don't get what the big deal is with Cardinals 1B Matt Adams and the fan.
I've now had people compare it to both Oklahoma States' Marcus Smart and The NBA Brawl at the Palace between the Pacers and Pistons. Seriously? Suspend him? Merriam Webster Dictionary
