Bengals offseason report card
Cincinnati sat idly by this offseason as DE Michael Johnson, OT Anthony Collins and CB Brandon Ghee (among others) departed via free agency. Promising young WR Andrew Hawkins, a restricted free agent, then did the same by inking an offer sheet with the Browns; Cincinnati declined to match and let him walk.
Amid a quick-moving, free-spending NFL market, the Bengals are one of the outliers.

"Career Game for Bill Plummer in Reds 13-2 Win"
From Steven Sharp
For the fourth straight game, the Reds were without their starting catcher Johnny Bench, who had been sidelined temporarily with muscle spasms in his back and pain in his right shoulder. As a precautionary measure, Reds manager Sparky Anderson decided to rest Bench for a few games. Bill Plummer once again got the call to start in place of Bench in this game, and he made the most of this opportunity. In the top of the second inning, Plummer plated the first run on RBI single that scored leftfielder Bob Bailey. The Reds erupted for six more runs in the top of the third inning, highlighted by a three-run triple by Plummer. With the Reds already comfortably ahead 9-1 in the sixth inning, Plummer hit a three-run home run. This was more than enough for rookie starter Pat Zachry (5-1), who pitched 7.0 innings for the win. Bill Plummer finished the game going 3-for-5 with seven RBI and two runs scored. Third baseman Pete Rose and second baseman Joe Morgan also had three hits each for the winning Reds. The Reds pounded out seventeen hits in their 13-2 win at St. Louis. The win kept the Reds 2.0 games ahead of the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West Division standings.
