Spring Training

Opening Day Starter Still Undecided

Opening Day Starter Still Undecided

Manager Bryan Price hasn't announced an Opening Day starter yet because he doesn't know.  He hopes to be able to announce something on Wednesday. Today on the complex, both Mat Latos (elbow & knee) and Homer Bailey (groin) will pitch in minor league games.  Johnny Cueto (Scapular) will do the same on Tuesday. It probably won't happen but, It's not out of the realm of possibility that either Mike Leake or Tony Cingrani could start the opener.

Mike Leake pounded

Right hander Mike Leake had his roughest outing of the Cactus League season yesterday.  He went 4 innings giving up 8 Runs (7 earned) on 9 hits.  He was up with his pitches most  of the day.

Who's the Catcher?

Red's catcher Devin Mesoraco has yet to swing a bat since he tweaked his oblique last Wednesday.  The first time we probably will see Mesoraco in a game will be this weekend either against Pensacola or Louisville.   If he's not ready for the season, there's a chance the Reds start the season with Brayan Pena and Tucker Barnhart as the catchers.  Normally Corky Miller would be that backup guy but he is not on the 40 man roster and I'm not sure the Reds will drop a player from the 40 man to make room for Miller.

Corky Miller may be the odd man out if Devin Mesoraco isn't ready for the regular season.  Miller isn't on the Red's 40 man roster.

Airplane Bone Yard

If you come to Goodyear Ball Park, take a look over the right field fence.  In the distance you'll see the Goodyear Airport.  It's a place where airlines park a lot of their jets that are no longer in service.
