During the summer we looked ahead at Thanksgiving 2012 with a degree of concern. Fewer flights in many markets and more passengers expected to fly this year than last could have created quite the problem, especially if bad weather crept into the picture. However, the weather cooperated and, for the most part, it was one of the smoothest Thanksgiving holidays we have seen in a while.

Passengers left their fireworks at home (we call those explosives and stress they need to be left behind before arriving at an airport), presents were unwrapped and most understood the importance of arriving well in advance of their departure time.

Technology cooperated as well with no major issues either from the FAA flight tracking stations or with any of the airline computer reservation systems (can you hear United breathing easier in the background?).

Preparation played a key role in the smooth operation this holiday season and everyone involved is hopeful that the end of December holiday season is just as smooth.

(Don’t bet on it. We rarely see back-to-back stellar travel seasons!)
