UC football
CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati football head coach Tommy Tuberville completed his 2013 coaching staff Friday, naming Steve Clinkscale as defensive backs coach.
Clinkscale, who comes to Cincinnati after a year coaching the cornerbacks at Illinois, replaces John Lovett who left UC to join the Philadelphia Eagles staff.
“I’m happy and excited to add Steve to our staff,” Tuberville said. “He has a reputation as a great coach and teacher of the game as well as being a strong recruiter. We are really looking forward to getting on the field next week with the start of spring football.”
During his year at Illinois, Clinkscale mentored Honoroable Mention All-Big Ten selection Terry Hawthorne while the Fighting Illini ranked in the Top-20 nationally in pass defense, surrendering under 200 yards passing per game.
He joined the Illini staff after spending three seasons at Toledo, including the last two as the cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator. Under his leadership, Toledo’s cornerbacks played a key role in the Rockets’ defensive resurgence, while special teams were a strong suit during Clinkscale’s tenure at UT. The kickoff return team ranked 11th in the nation in 2010 and the punt return unit ranked 17th in 2011.

Steve Fisher calls Mick Cronin

Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin said he received a call from San Diego State coach Steve Fisher about possibly moving back a home-and-home series with the two schools, which was slated to start in Cincinnati. The reason? Fisher loaded up his nonconference schedule with the anticipation that the Aztecs were going to be in the Big West next season. But the Aztecs decided to stay put in the Mountain West and now have an overload of tougher games, so Fisher is trying to pull back a bit. Cronin is cool with moving the series back if he can get a quality home-and-home series to start at home in 2013-14. The problems in scheduling for San Diego State and Cincinnati are occurring at a number of Big East schools since they don't know exactly who will be in the conference in 2013-14 or 2014-15, although there is an assumption everyone will be settled in the fall of 2014.

St Louis announcer takes on ref, on the air!

The old saying, "talk is cheap" took on a new meaning during a regular season Atlantic 10 basketball game.
Saint Louis play-by-play announcer Bob Ramsey didn't agree with a foul called against the Billikens' Dwayne Evans during Tuesday's game against VCU.
"They're going to call a cheap foul on Evans and I'll tell you what," Ramsey started to say on the live broadcast. The referee who made the call just so happened to overhear Ramsey's "cheap" labeling and didn't take too kindly to the announcer's criticism, confronting him live on the air.
