( Cincinnati ) 30-year-old Charles Black has been indicted on numerous charges in connection with the kidnapping of a cab driver, the theft of his taxi and leading police on a chase. If convicted of all charges, he faces the possibility of 68 years in prison.

Prosecutor Joe Deters says Mulugeta Shiferaw was driving his West Side Cab on September 8 when he received a call to pick up Black somewhere in the downtown/Over-the Rhine area.  At some point, Black locked Shiferaw in the trunk of the cab and kept him there for about 10 hours. The police pursued the vehicle twice for a total of approximately 22-24 minutes and finally stopped the cab at approximately 7:00 pm when Black crashed in Elmwood.   Black ran from the cab but the police were able to apprehend him. Mr. Shiferaw was found in the trunk of the cab with serious injuries. He remains hospitalized and is expected to be permanently disabled as a result of his abduction.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters commented, “I cannot imagine anything more horrible than being stuffed in a dark, airless, tight space for 10 hours.  Black, only recently out of prison, should go back to prison for the rest of his life.”
