( Cincinnati ) 19-year-old Dontez Oneal had seven pending felony warrants when he was shot and killed on Wednesday in Avondale by Cincinnati Police Officer Orlando Smith.

On Friday, Assistant Chief of Police James Whalen detailed the events leading up to the shooting death of Oneal. He says Officer Orlando Smith was conducting an undercover investigation into drugs and gangs, when Oneal fled in a car with 23-year-old Robert Matthews and a third suspect. Officer Smith followed them onto Burton Avenue, where the third suspect fled from the car.

Officer Smith fired one or two shots at the fleeing suspect, who remains at large. At that point, Whalen says Oneal opened his door, used it as cover and shot a single shot at Officer Smith. Officer Smith returned fire, firing at least ten times, hitting Onel five times and Matthews once in the arm. Matthews immediately surrendered and Oneal died at the scene.

Officer Smith has been place on administrative leave, as is standard procedure. This is the second deadly shooting by a Cincinnati Police Officer in two months.
