The transformation of what they used to called the Win Showplace on the riverfront is under way. Wrecking crews have begun demolition of River Downs in Anderson Township. A brand new combination racetrack and casino is going to be built in its place.

The construction work is expected to mean that racing will not be held at River Downs this summer. The owner of the track has decided to complete all of the work at once instead of in a series of phases. Pinnacle Entertainment is spending over $200 million dollars on the project.

When the new Racino opens in 2014, it will offer 1500 video slot machines as well as parimutual wagering.
