( Cincinnati ) A popular pedestrian bridge used by people going to US Bank Arena and Great American Ballpark is being replaced starting January 9.

A press release from the city states, "Construction and replacement will begin on Wednesday for the pedestrian bridge over Pete Rose Way from Broadway to Johnny Bench Way.

One lane of traffic each way on Pete Rose Way will be maintained.  No access to or from the Plaza will be available using the steps or pedestrian bridge across Pete Rose Way.  All lanes will be available for most events.

Pedestrians will be rerouted to accessible elevators to the Plaza (via East Garage) or during events at Great American Ballpark, and well-marked detour walkways will allow pedestrians access from one side of the street.

The new bridge should open in October 2013.

As part of The Banks Project's Bid Package to replace the pedestrian bridge and steps, Prus Construction will be setting up a work zone on Pete Rose Way. The existing pedestrian bridge will be blocked off, using concrete barriers with chain link fence on top of the barriers on the Plaza.  The pedestrian steps will also be blocked off with chain link fence."
