A new, 9-1-1 center has been approved for Kenton County. A unanimous vote approved a 2700 square foot expansion to be added to the existing 9-1-1 center in Independence. It's projected to be built within 100 days.

Kenton Co. will consolidate it's 9-1-1 operations for approximately half of the county after much debate and controversy about how it would be funded.

Property taxes will go up for each parcel in Kenton County by about $85 a year.

Initially there were proposals to tax each vehicle registered in the county, then to add it onto the Duke energy bill. Both those ideas were nixed in favor of the property tax.

County officials are hoping other cities which currently use Erlanger's 9-1-1 communications center will join the county's system.
