(Mason County) Mason City Schools Superintendent Dr. Gail Kist-Kline along with other Ohio public school superintendents gathered to hear Ohio Governor John Kasich's plan for public school funding.

Governor Kasich's funding proposal will put $300 million towards a competitive grant program to help districts who are implementing new ways to improve student learning and operational efficiency.

The funding plan will also help Governor Kasich's goal to balance the resources available to rich and poor school districts.

According to the Kasich Administration, the funding plan could provide the Mason Schools with an additional $531,256 in state funding, a 2.17% increase in FY 2014. However, there would be no increase of funding for the district in FY 2015, adding to Mason Schools' concern about losing funding in future years.

The Mason City School Board of Education approved a Five Year Financial Plan in October that called for flat funding in FY 2014 and FY 2015.
