( Pendleton ) With just three weeks left until Horseshoe Casino opens to the public, city leaders, those living around the project and casino representatives gathered at a new park on Tuesday to celebrate the changes.
Nearly $23 million has been spent, more than half by the casino, to tear down some streets, build and widen others and create green space. The most noticeable change is to Reading Road. It's now much wider, with better lighting and has been straightened as it enters downtown. Where a former curve was, now stands a "pocket park" that enhances walkability. Signage, trees and lights have been added around the casino, too.
