( Cincinnati ) 26-year-old Marquita Burch has pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter, child endangering and gross abuse of a corpse in connection with the death of 13-month-old William Cunningham.
Burch claims she was babysitting the boy on May 22, when he fell down some stairs at her Hartwell apartment and began feeling ill. She gave him ibuprofren and put him to bed and he was dead when she checked on him the next day. She admits to putting the body in a garbage bag, moving the remains to a cousin's apartment and reported the boy missing. The missing child report sparked a massive search in Covington that ended with the discovery of the body.
The pleas will put Burch in prison for 19 and a half years. The Hamilton County Coroner ruled Cunningham's death a homicide as a result of head trauma. Both the coroner and prosecutor Joe Deters says the boy may have lived, had Burch sought medical treatment.
