The Port Authority, city and Allen Temple AME Church have been working for years on a plan to turn the 25 acres of mostly abandoned property into a mix of retail, office and housing space. That process began on Thursday, with the destruction of the large blue "Jordan Crossing" sigh at Seymour and Reading and will continue for the next year.
Eventually, the Port will establish green space, meeting space and landscaping and make the area development ready. The Port hopes to bring in a mix of businesses, housing and even a hotel.
