(Cincinnati)-- Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center broke ground Thursday on a Family Pet Center.
The center will be open to children battling cancer and others with other serious medical conditions.
John Perentesis, executive co-director of the hospital's Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute, says pets can be ``very therapeutic'' to patients.
He says the pets will bring joy, comfort and a positive mindset to ailing children.
The $107,000 pet center is being paid for by a grant and is expected to open in August. The center will include visitation areas accessible by wheelchairs and stretchers.
