( Hamilton County ) - On Friday, April 5, a 13 count indictment was announced by Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters against three men.
Christopher Grier of Indiana, Jonathan Martin of Indiana and Ricky Lonners of Illinois are charged with multiple counts including Money Laundering, Aggravated Theft, Telecommunications Fraud, Misuse of Credit Card, and Receiving Stolen Property. If convicted of all the charges, each man will face over 39 years in prison.
The Hamilton County Sherriff's Department arrested Grier in a traffic stop on I-74 on March 26, 2013 where officers allegedly found 45 credit cards and a small scale in his car. With information from the investigation, the police went to the Holiday Inn Express in Harrison, Ohio, to find Martin and Lonners. Officers say they found 44 additional credit cards, a credit card scanner, a laptop computer and handwritten notes with credit card information from the defendents.
The men allegedly stole credit card information to use for buying expensive items such as iPads. Then they would send the items to a company in China for reimbursement and additional credit card information to use for other purchases.
A loss of over $150,000 has hit several banking institutions as a result of this criminal activity.
