( Cincinnati ) - The City signed a $71.4 million contract for construction of the Cincinnati Streetcar system Monday morning with Messer/Prus/Delta JV. The contract issues a notice to proceed with the project to the Messer team.
The signed contract allows materials to be ordered, and for crews to begin preparing the area for construction of the track way.
The company will also begin construction on a The Maintenance & Operations Facility (MOF) at Race & Henry streets, that will preform maintenance on the street car when it becomes operational.
Another major phase will include construction of the Power system (including overhead power lines & substations) and station stops.
The City will provide $492,933 in additional funding and can revise completion dates.
Messer/Prus/Delta JV hopes to have the Test track & MOF completed by March 1, 2015, and the OTR Loop completed by June 29, 2015,
The City says they hope to have all construction completed by March 15, 2016, and passengers will be able to ride by Sept. 15, 2016.
Work will continue in Over-the-Rhine and the Central Business District on utility relocation for the Cincinnati streetcar.
