A bus carrying teenagers returning to Indiana from a church camp in Michigan crashed Saturday afternoon just minutes from home, killing three people and sending 26 others to hospitals.
Police say the bus came speeding off Interstate 465 in northern Indianapolis around 4:15 p.m. Saturday, about a mile from the Colonial Hills Baptist Church were it was headed.
A church leader has identified the three people killed in the crash, as a church youth pastor, his pregnant wife and a mother of five who was a chaperon's on the trip.
The bus flipped on its side when it struck a wall on an exit ramp, reportedly trapping some of passengers inside the bus.
The bus driver reportedly told a TV station that the brakes failed.
Troy Riggs, with the Department of Public Safety, says they are combing the accident scene for clues, saying they will preform "a very exhaustive investigation", of the accident.
