( Wall Lake, Iowa ) He was born in Iowa but grew up in the Tristate. Andy Williams who had a show on WLW in the 1940's has died at the age of 84. The legendary singer had been battling bladder cancer.
Williams came to Cincinnati with his brothers to perform on "The Nation Station"where he was heard by Bing Crosby who helped launch his career. Williams signature song was Moon River but he also recorded 18 gold records and 3 albums that went platinum.
Andy Williams was a graduate of Western Hills High School. In addition to his recording career, Williams hosted a popular TV varierty show and was featured in eight films. He had been living in Branson, Missouri where he operated the Moon River Theater.
In the 1960's Williams was signed to the biggest recording contract in history. He's best known for "Moon River", performed at the 1962 Oscars.
