A high-speed police chase that topped 100 MPH ended with a single vehicle crash on Interstate 275 in Boone County near Minneola Pike.  It happened in the 4:00 p.m. hour on Thursday, February 9th.

The chase went along I-75 then westbound on I-74 and continued south onto I-275.  The suspect made a pair of u-turns near Lawrenceburg before crossing over into Boone County.  It finally ended when the suspect's vehicle hit a set of stop sticks and crashed into the median at Minneola Pike.

With the White Death upon us, Triple A auto club offers some common sense tips for driving in the snowy and icy conditions this winter.

• Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Applying the gas slowly to accelerate is the best method for regaining traction and avoiding skids. Don't try to get moving in a hurry. And take time to slow down for a stoplight. Remember: It takes longer to slow down on icy roads.
   
• Drive slowly. Everything takes longer on snow-covered roads. Accelerating, stopping, turning - nothing happens as quickly as on dry pavement. Give yourself time to maneuver by driving slowly.
   
• The normal dry pavement following distance of three to four seconds should be increased to eight to ten seconds. This increased margin of safety will provide the longer distance needed if you have to stop.
   
• Know your brakes. Whether you have antilock brakes or not, the best way to stop is threshold breaking. Keep the heel of your foot on the floor and use the ball of your foot to apply firm, steady pressure on the brake pedal.
   
• Don't stop if you can avoid it. There's a big difference in the amount of inertia it takes to start moving from a full stop versus how much it takes to get moving while still rolling. If you can slow down enough to keep rolling until a traffic light changes, do it.
   
• Don't power up hills. Applying extra gas on snow-covered roads just starts your wheels spinning. Try to get a little inertia going before you reach the hill and let that inertia carry you to the top. As you reach the crest of the hill, reduce your speed and proceed down hill as slowly as possible.
   
• Don't stop going up a hill. There's nothing worse than trying to get moving up a hill on an icy road. Get some inertia going on a flat roadway before you take on the hill.
   
• Stay home. If you really don't have to go out, don't. Even if you can drive well in the snow, not everyone else can. Don't tempt fate: If you don't have somewhere you have to be, watch the snow from indoors.

U.S. 42 Closed For Culvert Repair In Butler County

Construction crews have shut down a section of U.S. 42 in Butler County for some culvert replacement work.

The road is blocked off between Cox Road and Tylersville Road and is expected to be shut down until Friday, March 12th.

The detour will use Cox Road and Tylersville Road and there are detour signs posted. 

Work Begins On Kentucky Speedway Traffic Improvements

Work crews have begun work to widen Kentucky 35 between Interstate 71 and the Kentucky Speedway.  They're hoping to improve traffic flow into the parking lots and avoid the traffic nightmare that plagued the inaugural Sprint Cup race at the track last July.

They'll also be installing a tunnel underneath KY 35 to allow pedestrians to cross under the highway to the track from a new parking lot that's being built on the east side of the road.

The work will require KY 35 to be shut down just north of the track for about 75 days, starting on January 18th.

Cincinnati Moves Forward On Viaduct Project



City planners have wrapped up the first round of public involement in the planning of the Western Hills Viaduct project.  

The city is looking to replace or resonstruct the aging viaduct which was completed in 1932.

Police work to clean up a car that had flipped on its roof and shut down the eastbound lanes of I-74 at Montana Avenue on Wednesday, January 11th.

 

A crash on interstate 275 really jammed things up at Montgomery Road on December 2nd.  We're still not sure what the firefighter was doing all the way up there on the ladder.

 

A mudslide shut down the ramp from Montana Avenut to Eastbound 74 for a while on December 5th.

Funding Secured For Repairs On Devil's Backbone

 
The Hamilton County Engineer's Office says funding has been secured to make repairs to Devil's Backbone Road in Green Township, which has been closed for a landslide since May.

Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, November 21st and is expected to be finished up by February 10th of next year (weather permitting).

The cost of the work is $443,000.

The detour will continue to run along Werk Road to Ebenezer Road to Muddy Creek Road and vice versa.
