The Reds have more Gold Glove finalists than any team in the majors. Bronson Arroyo, Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, Zack Cozart, Drew Stubbs and Jay Bruce are all among the three finalists for the National League award at their position.
Votto and Phillips won last year. It was Phillips third award. Arroyo won in 2010. Cozart, Stubbs and Bruce would be first-time winners.
The awards will be announced Tuesday on ESPN2 beginning at 9 p.m. That’s where the ‘finalist’ thing comes in — adds to the drama and all that.
Managers and coaches vote on the awards. I still think Phillips has the best shot among the Reds, even though Darwin Barney of the Cubs won the Fielding Bible award. The voters tend to stick with the same players.
