It was reported earlier this week that Cincinnati coach Butch Jones was gaining interest from Purdue. At the time, there was no indication Jones was reciprocating much interest.
Consider that part changed, at least enough that Jones is willing to listen to what Purdue has to offer. According to GoldandBlack.com and Mike Carmin of the Lafayette (Ind.) Journal and Courier, Jones was on Purdue’s campus Sunday to interview for the job previously held by Danny Hope.
Jones, in his third year at Cincinnati, coached the Bearcats to yet another share of a Big East title and could lead his team to a second consecutive 10-win season with a bowl victory.
Colorado is the other job opening that Jones has been connected to in the past week. Kentucky was reportedly interested in Jones, but that job eventually went to Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops. It’s believed that UC is working to extend Jones’ contract, but that has not been confirmed.
