CINCINNATI – The Musketeers sealed the 66-61 victory over in-state rival Dayton Flyers late Wednesday night at Cintas Center. Dee Davis scored a team-high 14 points and dished out three assists in the thriller.

Xavier is now 12-8 for the season and 5-2 in the Atlantic 10 and now have beat Dayton 14 of the last 18 meetings. Dayton drops to 12-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The Musketeers continue to stretch their winning streak over Dayton in Cincinnati to 28 games in a row. The last time the Flyers defeated the Musketeers in Cincinnati was January 10, 1981.

With 15:17 remaining in the second half the Musketeers held a close 41-40 edge over the Flyers. The Musketeers began the half making four of their first six shots while the Flyers sank five of their six buckets.

The game remained close the entire way as the Musketeers’ largest lead in the second half was only seven. For the game, there were six ties and 13 lead changes.

With 59.4 left on the clock Semaj Christon made a fade-away mid-range jumper to give XU a 62-61 lead. Christon ended with 13 points and three assists.

The Musketeers were able to grab two crucial offensive boards off missed free throws in the closing seconds to get XU back to the line. Davis made both freebies to give the Musketeers a late 64-61 edge and end the game for the Flyers.

Davis scored in double figures for the first time since December 9 when he dropped 10 on Kent State. Senior Jeff Robinson ended with 12 points and five boards, four rebounds were offensive.  Travis Taylor had a game-high 11 rebounds with eight points to his name.
