A day after Cincinnati coach Butch Jones asserted a report that he’d accepted the Colorado job was “absolutely false,” Jones has stamped it by declining the Buffaloes' offer and withdrawing his name from the search.
According to ESPN.com and confirmed to The Cincinnati Enquirer by athletic spokesperson Ryan Koslen, Jones is no longer in the running. The Denver Post reported Wednesday night that Jones would be named the new coach. Jones had a five-year, $13.5 million contract from Colorado, the Post reported.
ESPN reported Thursday night that Jones' name has surfaced as a candidate along with Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart for the head coaching vacancy at Tennessee.
