Shooter on the Loose in Kentucky

( NEW COLUMBUS, KY ) -- Police are investigating a non-fatal shooting in Owen County. At approximately 11:18 pm Friday, February 17, Kentucky State Police Dispatchers received a 911 call that a man and woman had been shot at a home on Old Columbus Road.

The investigation revealed that Derrick Mays Thomas, 23 of Mt. Sterling, allegedly came to the residence and got into an argument with James Neal, 54 of Owenton.  During the argument, Thomas allegedly shot Mr. Neal in the hand and the leg.

Amber Neal, 25 of Owenton, was also shot in the arm. Thomas then left the home in a gray 2003 Mitsubishi Galant with Kentucky license plate number 124-VET. The victims were transported to University of Kentucky Hospital and St. Elizabeth Owenton for non-life threatening injuries.

Police are seeking Thomas as a suspect and consider him armed and dangerous at this time.  Thomas is described as a 23-year-old white male, 5-feet-6-inches tall, with blue eyes.  He may be in the company of his girlfriend, Elizabeth Neal, 22, and their two children, ages 1 and 3.

Thomas may be in the Winchester or Mt. Sterling areas of Kentucky.  The public is asked to not make any contact with Thomas and to provide any information on his whereabouts to Kentucky State Police Post 5 Campbellsburg.  Tips from the public may be left at (502) 532-6363 or 1-800-222-5555.
