Scam Alert: Caller Demands Money For Phony Warrant

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office reports it received numerous calls Monday from residents within the County and some from other areas of Ohio regarding receiving phone calls from a man, who represented himself as a member of the Sheriff's Office.

Officers report the man warns the recipient of the call they have missed a court date and an arrest warrant has been issued. The recipient must pay fees to have the warrant for their arrest lifted. The caller instructs scam victims to purchase Moneypak cards, which can be purchased at most local retailers, and have money loaded onto the cards and to call them back with the card number.

The phone number the scammer is calling from is 513 299 7859, which is not associated in any way with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, nor does this office call the public to collect money.

The Sheriff’s Office urges anyone who has received these types of calls to contact their local law enforcement agency to report the incident. Officers also say to be mindful there are times when these scammers will represent themselves as members of law enforcement by using actual agency member names, which are available on the Sheriff's website. They say when in doubt, report the incident and limit your conversation with them.
