(Whitewater Township) Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil reports two men were critically injured in an early Sunday morning crash in the 3800 block of Lawrenceburg Road in Whitewater Township. Berzain Ramirez, 25, of Brookville, Indiana lost control of his 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt while negotiating a left bound curve at 12:14 a.m. He crossed the center line and was struck by a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado operated by John P. Haeufle, 58, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Ramirez and his passenger Brandon J. Ertel ,25, of Brookville, Indiana become entrapped in the vehicle and mechanically extricated by crews from the Whitewater and Miami Township Fire Departments. Haeufle was treated at the scene and released. Ramirez and Ertel were then flown by Air Care to the University Medical Center with life threatening injuries. Ramirez and Ertel were last listed in critical condition. Investigators believe excessive speed and alcohol on the part of Ramirez are believed to have contributed to the crash.
