NKy Mother Released by ICE after Week-long Detention

( Burlington, Kentucky ) - Another local mother detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but this time, no deporation.

22-Year-Old Riccy Enriquez Perdomo of Florence was taken into custody last week in Louisville as she tried to post bond for another immigrant's release. ICE says their records showed her DACA status had expired.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a program started in 2012 by former President Barack Obama for children brought to the US illegally. It's a policy that provides renewable, two-year periods of deferred deportation and the chance to get a work permit and driver's license.

Enriquez Perdomo also allegedly told agents that she was a legal permanent resident, which isn't technically correct, though her DACA status had been renewed in January. This all led to her being detained in multiple federal facilities in different states for the last week as her attorney worked for the mother of two to be released.

She was released from the Boone County Jail on Thursday evening, her DACA status confirmed by ICE.

Earlier this year, Maribel Trujillo-Diaz of Fairfield--another married mother who came to the US illegally years ago--was deported.
