Shots Fired After A Drug Stop In Anderson Township

(700 WLW)- Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil reports a police officer was involved in a shooting incident a little after 4PM Monday afternoon on the exit ramp from westbound I-275 at Kellogg Avenue. Uniformed and undercover agents from the Regional Narcotics Unit/Organized Crime Division were conducting an operation in the area. Agents were attempting to stop and arrest Joseph Deller for narcotics violations. Deller was a passenger in a Dodge Dakota truck which was being driven by his friend Andrea Marks. When the vehicle stopped on the exit ramp, agents approached the truck attempting to get Deller out. Deller then exited the passenger side of the truck with a pistol in each hand. Four agents then fired their handguns at Deller striking him twice. It was later discovered that the pistols were two pellet hand guns which have the appearance of actual firearms. In an interview with investigators, Deller stated that he was attempting "suicide by cop" and that he wanted to die before having to go to prison.

Deller was transported to University Hospital and is listed in fair condition. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Criminal Investigative Section charged Deller with four counts of Felonious Assault. Drug Charges are pending. Andrea Marks was interviewed, charged with narcotics violations, and was transported to the Justice Center"
