( Union, Kentucky ) - A man and a woman are facing charges of criminal abuse and assault after the woman's 3-year-old was taken to the hospital with facial injuries.
The boy was taken to St Elizabeth in Edgewood this past Tuesday and employees there reported the child's injuries to the Boone County Sheriff. Karen Spurlock and Shane Sasher claimed hechild had fallen down the stairs with contusions under his eyes, to his forehead, temples, cheeks, and nose. The boy also had a laceration under his left eye and that eye was swollen shut.
Investigators say the pair only brought the boy to the hospital after they thought he died when they tried to wake him up that morning. A statement from the sheriff says the child had been abused twice before the incident report on Tuesday.
The child is now in the custody of a family member.
