Police: Suspect Struck Officer During Attempted Getaway

( Hamilton, Ohio ) - Police say a suspect struck an officer during an arrest Thursday evening.

A statement from Hamilton Police Sgt Rich Burkhardt says 36-year-old Eric Wilson was wanted for recent crimes. Officers approached him on South 7th St just after 6pm Thursday, and Wilson jumped into his vehicle to get away. Wilson allegedly struck Officer Sean Figley as he was driving off, and Officer Wyatt Arnold opened fire. Police say at least one of Officer Arnold's bullets struck the vehicle, but not the driver.

Wilson overturned in the back of a residence, and a police report says he admitted to being under the influence of meth, cocaine, and marijuana. Wilson was taken into custody with minor injuries. In addition to OVI and the outstanding warrants he was already wanted on in Hamilton, Fairfield, and Butler County, police say additional charges are expected.

Officer Figley was treated and released from the hospital.

The department says Officer Arnold is now on standard policy administrative leave following the discharge of his service weapon and the pending internal investigation.
